Nervous System Awareness Changes Everything

No person alive could not use a better understanding and more control of their nervous systems and their automatic reactions.

Think about it a spouse, child, family member, boss, employee, stranger, teacher, or friend says something to you, and suddenly you are reacting from a place that feels like it has no control.

Your reaction can be as simple as getting mad silently, saying something unintentionally, or losing the ability to respond.

We all have triggers attached to deep wounds where our nervous system has figured out how to proceed without our awareness.

Yesterday, while working with someone and having them check into their sensation, she realized she clamps down on her husband in social situations for fear of embarrassment to his strong, unfiltered opinions.

The awareness came as she was trying to protect people from his words because she had been hurt by them before.

Staying with the sensation in her body, she recognized that this was a pattern she had with her dad about trying to keep people calm to avoid his blowups.

As a child, she learned to manage others around her to keep dad calm, and something about her husband and the way he interacts with others spoke to this, and she went for the same strategy even though it caused great discord in her relationship.

One session loads of awareness, and now, when she is in a social situation with her husband, she has a choice. She can react the same way or see that her husband may not be offending people and he is an adult and can answer for himself.
