Is Your Nervous System Trapped in the Past?

There are wonderful programs inside us that help us regulate and keep ourselves going. We created many of these programs in childhood. Adolescence or young adulthood is a place where we can get emotionally stuck. Negative or positive experiences can imprint and develop a nervous system pattern.

This means patterns from many ages control our thoughts and behaviors without awareness. We all know someone who acts like a child or unruly teenager when mad or sad, even though they are much older.

When working with clients, these places are very vulnerable, and people usually do not want them exposed initially. Creating a safe environment is critical; it allows time to welcome the childlike responsibility created to help the person survive whatever condition they were exposed to.

In the healing process, recognizing and understanding these younger parts of ourselves can empower us to shift and change, bringing us closer to the person we aspire to be.

If you have a behavior or thought that shows up in certain conditions, such as during conflicts, stressful situations, or when triggered by specific events, and you have never been able to change it, then Somatic therapy may be the answer.

Working with clients, they have been able to shift responses of rage, shame, emotional instability, and sexual issues, all while understanding their younger places, accepting them, and switching to a more adult response.
