Anxiety is...
Anxiety is a nervous system pattern that takes us away from the present moment and sets us squarely down in the past or future.
Many of my clients suffer from anxiety, whether connected to a specific place like hospitals, social gatherings, or non-specific.
Sitting in a safe, supportive environment like a Somatic therapist's office and breathing is an excellent place to start when struggling with anxiety.
Sensing body sensations such as tightness, restriction, and heaviness are good ways to track your anxiety and where it is held in the body.
Once the client and therapist have a sense of where the feeling of anxiety is showing up in body sensations, then the healing work can begin.
Anxiety is always linked with a thought, although we may not have the awareness as to what thought or which ones trigger the anxiety.
Sitting still, breathing in safety, noticing sensation, we will get more clarity on the thoughts that cause this particular nervous system pattern.
With awareness of the thoughts and the clarity of the body pattern, the learning to shift and disrupt the pattern becomes available to us.
Anxiety feels overwhelming when there is no information or reason to feel it in our minds.
Making a mind-body connection creates that awareness and allows for choice in the nervous system.
