Heal Your Anger
““You cannot heal what you do not first acknowledge.”
― Richard Rohr, Breathing Underwater”
We are such a black and white society in our views.
If you vote for a specific person, you can be categorized and summed up in a few words: stupid, racist, and ignorant. If you vote for someone else, you are intelligent, forward-thinking, and not bigoted. This standard applies to either side, and neither is correct.
I live in an eclectic working-class neighborhood—the neighbor to the West works out of their garage for a living. The man across the street fixes Harleys from home. The woman to the East has multiple renters all the time and is forming a Goddess community.
I am very different from all of these people, and I have real issues with how much noise they make, the strong smell of pot coming from their yard, or how they treat their animals sometimes.
But I do not chalk them up to stereotypes of bikers, Mexicans, or potheads because we are all more complicated than that.
All of them have very nice qualities, and I could care less about how they vote.
I know that they look out for my house, my son and my dog. I also look out for them.
There is no one way to categorize a person, and we all have light and dark.
If you are caught up in the drama of painting with broad brush strokes, everyone from one group or another, the problem is with you.
Focusing on this is your nervous system reacting to something that has little to do with how a person votes and much more to do with previous experiences and how your body has cataloged them.
