Think Big Picture

For goodness sake, there is always a bigger picture.

I am so tired of people around me, focusing on the minutia of life.

Yes, life is hard right now for most of us.

People are reacting from a sense of underlying fear, and all we see in the media is encouraging that.

If you want to feel terrible, angry, and overwhelmed, just read the papers, talk politics, or engage in a conversation where you have decided you are right.

How do we find the bigger picture?

Sit in silence and decide to focus on something else.

It is that simple and that difficult.

I start big.

I sit down and open myself to noticing the sky, then the universe I have seen in pictures. After a few minutes, when spaciousness has crept in, I will go to the oceans and remember what I have witnessed scuba diving.

In the ocean, we realize we are not are all-powerful. In one square foot, there is more life than we can consume.

On top of mountains, I have had the same sensations that the universe, not just the world, is connected and singing its rhythm, whether we participate or not.

We are not all that important. The earth will continue to turn when we leave it.

Find a piece of the magnificent planet and spend time with it.

Garden, hike, sit with trees, notice ants making mountains in your backyard.

Find something to be in awe of and then tell me how important you are.

The earth is immense, and the universe is not fathomable on any concrete level.

If you believe in God, then sit with the fact that God is too big ever to figure out entirely or even fully comprehend.

Our current circumstances can lead our egos into the trap of cynicism and feeling less than.

Don't let that take hold, or you will drown in self-pity or rage.

Wake up to the beauty in your front yard, and if that is not enough, look at the sky at night.
