Count Your Wins

As the New Year approaches, it is easy for me to sit and roll around in my self-loathing.

I am ten pounds heavier than I was three years ago. I have not run, hiked, climbed, walked in months.

I sleep too much, and do not write enough.

I spend time binging on Netflix or Prime when I should be meditating.

My diet is not bad, but I am no Keto queen or vegan.

If I continue to talk to myself this way, I am bound to eat chocolate in large quantities and become more unmotivated.

There is no upside to focusing on the negatives and doing this does not tell the complete story.

Is this you?

Is your year full of half-done accomplishments and inertia to change?

Take a moment and breathe with me.

Take ten deep belly breaths that are longer and slower than usual.

Now think of the smaller objectives that you did well.

When I tally my wins instead of the goals I set earlier in the year, I am satisfied.

Cleaned out the closets and garage- Check

I have written several times a week consistently - Check

I put myself out there with public talks and speaking with kids in classrooms- Check

Helped my son change hockey teams and start with a new mountain biking team-Check

What are your wins?

What did you accomplish?

Is it connected to the goals you set, or did things shift?

What you do every day are accomplishments and victories.

Did you help your child pass math?

Did you start a new hobby?

Get a kid through their first year of college?

Change jobs?

Are you cooking more at home?

Look at the daily things you do and start adding them up.

You will see that you win a lot more often than you don't.

Next year will be great when we focus on what we are doing well.
