You Have to Do the Work

Any emotional or physical growth is hard.

I want runner's legs, but I am not motivated to run as much as I would need to look amazing.

Clients come into the office, and they want to change, they are looking specifically for trauma or Somatic therapy, but after three sessions, some disappear.

Three sessions of anything is not enough to learn a new language, start a new hobby, gain sufficient skills.

What we don't want as humans is to be uncomfortable and to sit in silence.

What we need to gain perspective about our interior selves are the last two things I mentioned.

We are torn between playing the old tapes that damage
or changing the entire playlist, which takes work.

Traditional talk therapy can walk the line between being uncomfortable or comfortable, like talking to a friend.

Talk therapy can be challenging, but the number of people I know who go to it for someone to vent to is significant.

When you come to me, I ask that you sit in silence and notice body sensations, and at this point, the work begins.

Somatic Psychotherapy is an excellent therapy for those who have a significant trauma background, ADHD, PTSD, and chronic pain, trauma from the past or illness.

Imagine you have been battling intestinal discomfort for some time or jaw clenching.

Both of these have a layer of holding something for you.

While you sit across from me or lay on the table, you recognize the sensation and the emotional charge it holds: anger, grief, sadness, rejection.

Suddenly an image thought, video of images, words comes to you.

Now you know what a piece of this body function is holding, and we can work on reframing it to see what part you can let go of.

Understanding your body and what you have held onto over the years is life-affirming and can change you profoundly.

There is no promise that the intestinal issue or jaw clenching will disappear, but with more knowledge of its origins, you can shift your mindset that causes the stomach upset or behavior itself.

Once you allow yourself to embrace the unintuitive nature of this work, your life will change.
