Healthy Coping Skills are Within Reach
My phone is ringing off the hook.
Old wounds are surfacing as we face all the painful realities and changes in our current lives. Wounds from childhood, divorce, the pandemic are all very intense and real right now.
Consultations are full of guttural sobs and embarrassment. Teenagers are coming unglued and wrestling with suicidal ideation.
Life is hard currently, and all the old nervous system patterns we had for coping are falling short.
I sit with new people daily and teach them how trauma affects their nervous systems.
I encourage them to recognize patterns of thoughts or behaviors they want to change.
As stories are shared, deep breathing and short bouts of stillness are employed.
I ask the client to notice how they are breathing if they are shaking their foot or some other nervous habit.
We sit with these sensations and start the work of tapping into the nervous systems and their patterns.
These ways of being with a client are the difference between Somatic versus traditional talk therapy.
There is so much information we will get from our bodies if we stop and notice.
The idea of being mindful in daily life and having more control over your responses to daily triggers are all available to you with this work.
Somatic therapy will help you find new coping skills and new thoughts.
Old belief systems will change permanently, and how you view yourself and the world will shift in a way you could never imagine.
Being truly present is a gift, so few people can grasp during their lives.
I am not that way every second of every day, but I am certainly more available to myself more than I ever thought possible.
Having these skills of sensing my physical body allows me to show up this way for other people and my clients.
A free consultation is always available.
