Tap Into your Grief
I started writing an ebook on grief when the pandemic hit. I am struggling to get it written as I search for ways to teach my seventh grader anything that resembles classwork, wrestle with being mostly unemployed, and scrambling to gain footing after losing my best friend-a magnificent Doberman.
“Unexpressed grief is the leading cause of addictions to substances, poor eating habits, negative self-talk, and a myriad of other destructive behaviors. ”
All brilliant coping strategies, but they do not get us closer to health.
When clients come into the office asking for direction in how to handle a behavior they want to change, there is always a pocket of grief found tamped down and smothered somewhere in the behavior cycle.
Notice the areas in life where you are feeling sorrow.
Do you miss your work friends, the people from the gym, church a group you regularly attended? It could just be that you miss going to the store without a mask and finding all the items you want there.
Get to know where it is showing up for you and allow space to feel it.
Maybe only a few minutes at a time.
Don't let the pandemic be another piece of grief in your nervous systems that stays unresolved.
