How to Touch Self Love
“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection. Buddha ”
Why is self-love so tricky for all humans? There is not a person alive who has complete self-love. Some of us are further along on the road than others, but we all are still incomplete.
Life has brought us many experiences that have encouraged us to define ourselves as unworthy of love.
The false self will spend a whole lot of energy trying to prove to other people we deserve the love we cannot give ourselves. We show this by focusing our efforts on all things superficial celebrities, clothing, houses, cars, phones, jobs, sports, and obsessing about our bodies.
All of this is a distraction to what should matters which is knowing and feeling great love and appreciation for ourselves.
If we agree with this, how do we get there?
We can chase lots of ways, and some will be fruitful — meditation, yoga, spiritual practice, religion, and exercise.
The best way I know and have seen work for many clients is Somatic psychotherapy.
Sitting with a psychotherapist and creating a time to feel who you are will give you the information you cannot get by any other means.
There is beauty to sitting with yourself and respecting your body as the keeper to your vast self-knowledge. Your brain focuses on your ego, prewired neural pathways, which is ususally fearful, and old memories. Your body holds your capacity for health, compassion, self-love, and courage.
The moments when you feel alive and are engaging in something that has grace at its root is who you are.
When we sit across from a therapist and complain about all the ways we are fearful or disappointed with work, spouses, children, friends that is not who you are. It is your mask.
Finding self-love is a journey that cannot heal with your mind alone.
Please stop the madness and embrace the idea that your body holds much more magic in it than to carry your thinking mind around.
Come and sit or lay on my table and try the many ways I know of how to help you tap into your self-love. You are worth it, but you cannot get there from doing what you have always done.
