Get Clear on Your Relationships

Almost every person who comes into my office in a committed relationship has the same concern, "I don't feel supported by my partner."

What does support look and feel like is my first question because we all have different ideas of what that word means?

Sometimes there is a perceived lack of support, and sometimes it is real.

The road to understanding what dynamics are playing into this situation requires burgeoning awareness about ourselves.

It could be that we have an old wound that tells us our partner will never be enough no matter what the reality is.

Sometimes, we have told ourselves that what we have is fine, smothering our true feelings unconsciously until the dam of hurt overwhelms us.

The eventual recognition that we chose a person incapable of meeting our needs washes over us: uprooting and surprising everyone in its wake.
