Your Body is Safe-How to Start Healing Your Eating Disorder
As a therapist, I know the food struggle intimately.
There is hope for the deep-seated anger, shame, and self-hate that people with eating disorders engage in every hour of every day. It is challenging for anyone who has never been a food addict to understand.
Some of my darkest moments were when I was battling my eating disorder. I was killing myself because of the intense emotions I was feeling as a teenager growing up.
If I stuffed the feelings down with food and then vomited, there was a sense of control that came with the vomit.
It did not matter that this control was induced by violent behavior.
I overlooked the smell, sore throat and gag reflex all to feel control.
Having an eating disorder is like living a life on hold.
The only thing that matters is your relationship to food. It is a tragedy that something we need to survive every day is the idol of our obsession.

This therapy is not about why you purge or restrict. I do not need to know how many times you have purged today, what your calorie intake is or how often you think of food because i know it is constantly.
